"Pop" Daniel E. Nevius Sr. of Sicklerville, is described as "the glue to our family," in this GoFundMe campaign.

"He would do anything for anyone and with no questions asked. He lived for helping others even when he could not help himself," his son, Daniel wrote. "He often would get himself in more trouble because he was trying to help others."

Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at 1:22 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22 on Fox Run Road in Deptford Township and encountered Nevius, according to the state Attorney General’s office, which is investigating. That is standard protocol in police-involved shootings.

Deptford Officer Luke Ivey fired his service weapon, striking Nevius, authorities said.  Nevius was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released any additional details.

A firearm was found near Nevius’ body, according to an initial investigation report obtained by NJ Advance Media.

The campaign had raised nearly $400 in less than 24 hours.
